Details
On the Fitzgibbon farm, Mrs. Brisby, a widowed mouse, is faced with a dangerous predicament. It is almost plowing time, and she must move her family to a safer location. However, her young son Timothy falls ill, and moving him could prove fatal. Seeking advice, Mrs. Brisby visits The Great Owl, a wise creature who sends her on a mission to meet a group of rats who possess remarkable intelligence.
After finding the rats living beneath a rose bush, Mrs. Brisby encounters Nicodemus, their mystical leader, and Justin, a friendly rat who feels an immediate connection with her. Here, she discovers that her late husband and the rats were part of experiments at N.I.M.H., the National Institute of Mental Health. These experiments enhanced their intelligence, allowing them to read and comprehend advanced concepts. The rats had escaped and sought refuge on the Fitzgibbon farm, building an elaborate underground habitat.
Unhappy with their dependence on humans, the rats plan to leave the farm and live independently. In exchange for her husband's past association with them, the rats agree to help Mrs. Brisby move her home to safety. However, Jenner, an evil rat bent on staying beneath the rose bush, and his reluctant accomplice Sullivan, plot to kill Nicodemus during the move.
