In 2001, four friends from Pakistan who are living in Britain, Ruhal Ahmed, Asif Iqbal, Shafiq Rasul, and Monir, decide to travel to Pakistan for a wedding. Fueled by their idealism and curiosity, they make the impulsive decision to visit war-torn Afghanistan. The country is being bombed by American forces in retaliation for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Once in Afghanistan, they find themselves caught in the chaos of war and unfortunately lose Monir.
During their travels, the four friends are unexpectedly captured by fighters from the Northern Alliance. The captors hand them over to the American forces stationed in Afghanistan, who then transport them to the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison camps located in Cuba.
What follows for Ruhal, Asif, and Shafiq is a harrowing three-year ordeal marked by relentless imprisonment, brutal interrogations, and torture. The goal of their captors is to force them to confess to being terrorists, even though they are innocent. The friends are subjected to grave injustices as their captors try to break their spirits.
