Riding in Cars with Boys is a seriocomic film that is based on the memoir by Beverly Donofrio. The story takes place in the 1950s and follows the life of Beverly, a young and ambitious woman growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Connecticut. Beverly dreams of going to college in New York and becoming a writer, but her life takes a different turn when she falls in love with a boy from her high school.
One night, while trying to get his attention at a party, an embarrassing incident occurs and Ray, a sweet but thick-headed 18-year-old, comes to her rescue. They end up making out, which leads to Beverly getting pregnant at just 16 years old. Telling Ray and her parents about the pregnancy proves to be difficult, but Beverly is determined to finish high school and go to college, despite the challenges she faces as a young wife and mother.
As time goes on, Beverly's marriage begins to crumble, and Ray struggles to hold a job and becomes addicted to heroin. Despite these obstacles, Beverly remains determined to achieve her goals. Riding in Cars with Boys is a heartfelt and inspiring story about resilience, motherhood, and the pursuit of dreams in the face of adversity.
