In The Bourne Legacy, the story takes place simultaneously with the events of The Bourne Ultimatum. A British reporter is investigating the secret Black Ops programs Treadstone and Black Briar, causing concern among those responsible for these covert operations. Jason Bourne, a former Treadstone operative, leaks classified documents to the media, exposing the programs. Fearing the consequences, the men behind Treadstone and Black Briar decide to shut down all operations and eliminate any individuals involved.
Among those targeted for elimination is Aaron Cross, a participant in another program called Outcome. However, Cross manages to survive the assassination attempt and seeks help from Dr. Marta Shearing, who previously worked on him. Cross discovers that he needs medication as part of the program, but he has run out, leading him to seek Shearing's assistance. Their encounter is soon interrupted by an assassination attempt on Shearing's life.
Cross saves Shearing and learns that he should have stopped taking the medications long ago. Together, they travel to Manila, where Shearing can help Cross survive without the drugs. Meanwhile, the men behind the Outcome program discover that Cross and Shearing are still alive and launch a relentless pursuit to eliminate them.
The Bourne Legacy is an action-packed thriller that intertwines with the events of The Bourne Ultimatum and follows the relentless pursuit of Aaron Cross and Dr. Marta Shearing as they evade their former handlers and seek to expose the truth behind the secret Black Ops programs.
