During World War II, with all the men away fighting, women are given the opportunity to fill in vacant jobs, including playing baseball. The owners of baseball teams decide to form women's teams to keep the sport alive. Scouts are sent all over the country, and one of them discovers a talented player named Dottie Hinson in Oregon. However, Dottie is initially uninterested in joining the team. Her sister, Kit, who dreams of leaving Oregon, offers to go in her place if Dottie agrees to join too.
