What Drew is initially unaware of, or what he chooses to remain ignorant about, is that the Valcos are going through their own familial problems, which are only exacerbated by Drew's presence.
Surviving Christmas (2004) follows the story of Drew Latham, a wealthy ad executive from Chicago, who ends up alone on Christmas after his girlfriend breaks up with him. Determined to relive his childhood memories, Drew decides to rent a family - the Valcos - who now live in his childhood home. Initially, the Valcos are reluctant to participate, but they agree after Drew offers them a large sum of money.
As the days pass, the Valcos struggle to deal with the presence of Drew, and their own familial issues are brought to the surface. Tom, the head of the family, resents Drew's intrusion and initially refuses to participate. However, the lure of money changes his mind. The interaction between Drew and the Valcos becomes increasingly chaotic and comedic as they navigate through uncomfortable situations and clashes of personalities.
Despite the initially tense atmosphere, the Valcos eventually find common ground with Drew as they come to realize the importance of family and traditions. Through comedic mishaps and heartwarming moments, they learn to forgive and appreciate each other.
