In the epic historical action film 300, viewers are transported back to the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. This pivotal battle sees an alliance of Greek city-states bravely facing off against the invading Persian army in the treacherous mountain pass of Thermopylae. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the Greeks, led by 300 Spartan warriors, 700 Thespians, and 400 Thebans, valiantly hold their ground in one of history's most legendary last stands.

Under the command of Persian King Xerxes, the mighty Persian army, consisting of over 100,000 soldiers, including King Xerxes' own 170,000-strong force, descends upon Greece. Xerxes gives King Leonidas, the Spartan leader, an ultimatum to surrender or withdraw, but facing a seemingly impossible situation, Leonidas and his men choose to confront the enemy head-on.

As the battle rages on for three intense days, the Greeks fight with unwavering determination, but ultimately, they meet a tragic fate, with all of them falling in battle. This outcome, however, is not what Xerxes had anticipated. A local shepherd named Ephialtes, who defects to the Persian side, reveals a secret path through Thermopylae that the Persians can use to outflank the Greeks.
